Our Story

It started with two dogs.

Pug arrived in 2007. A black pug with a personality ten times his size — dramatic, affectionate and completely convinced he was the centre of the universe. He was our first dog. The dog that started everything.

Kaiser arrived a few years later. A Dobermann puppy — clumsy, daft and utterly chaotic. Pug took him under his paw and shaped him into something extraordinary. Calm. Steady. Wise. The kind of dog who made everyone around him feel safe.

They were inseparable. Different in every way, but completely devoted to one another.

We lost Pug in 2019 after 12 incredible years. We lost Kaiser in 2024 to soft tissue sarcoma — at just 11 years old, far too soon. Losing them both left a space that words struggle to fill.

But they didn't just leave a gap. They left a purpose.

The moment everything changed

Sureyya had been teaching canine first aid to adults for years. But the same pattern kept repeating — people came to her courses after something had already gone wrong. After the scare. After the emergency. After the moment they stood helpless and didn't know what to do.

One question kept coming back. What about the children?

Children who grow up with dogs. Children who are there when something goes wrong. Children who want to help but have never been shown how.

So Sureyya built a junior canine first aid course — created specifically for children, in a language they could understand, with skills they could actually use.

And from that course, this book was born.

Aidie & Remi: Let's Learn Dog First Aid

The book is named after two characters who carry the spirit of everything that matters.

Aidie — whose name comes from the word Aid — is curious, brave and always ready to help. She is based on Sureyya's niece Asel, who at just three years old already shows the kindness and courage that makes a true Dog Hero.

Remi — whose name comes from the word Remedy — is energetic, funny and lightning fast. He is based on Sureyya's nephew Can Deniz, whose unstoppable energy and cheeky spark brings Remi to life on every page.

Kai the vet reflects Kaiser's wisdom — calm, steady and reassuring in every crisis. Patch carries Pug's playful heart — loyal, affectionate and sometimes a little silly.

Bringing them all back together in this book is our way of honouring the bond between two extraordinary dogs, preserving their friendship and keeping their spirit alive in something that continues to help others.

Their love lives on in every chapter, every adventure, every page.

Where we are now

Sureyya lives in Staffordshire with her husband and two daughters — both qualified in dog first aid — and her two miniature poodles, AJ and Missy. Just before the book was completed they welcomed home Kali. Kaisers great niece!

Raw Revolution Derby and Raw Revolution Burton on Trent (formerly Natural Dogs Direct) are the founding homes of this book — the communities where the idea was born and the people who believed in it first.

This is just the beginning.

If you would like to be part of the Dog Hero journey — as a stockist, a school, a parent or a Dog Hero in training — we would love to hear from you.
